Philosophy Talk

The Examined Year 2015: The Year in Science and Climate Change

Stanford University philosophers John Perry and Ken Taylor explore the significance of the Paris Climate Agreement with Allen Thompson, co-editor of The Oxford Handbook of Environmental Ethics.

This is the third segment of Philosophy Talk's annual pre-recorded year-end special. I arranged the tape-sync interview, retrieved the audio from the respective studios via Hightail, and edited the 22-minute conversation to 10 minutes. In addition, I produced the Roving Philosophical Report, edited the Sixty Second Philosopher commentary, and selected and edited the music bumpers. I also wrote the scripted portions of the hosts' dialogue (intros/outros).

Is It Wrong to Wreck the Earth?

John and Ken ask about our responsibility to preserve a healthy planet with Kathleen Dean Moore from Oregon State University.

This program was recorded with a live audience at Oregon State University. I took the multitrack audio files (two hosts, one guest, one commentator, and two audience mics), adjusted volume levels and EQ, mixed in musical themes and breaks, and edited the program to standard public radio time. I also produced the Roving Philosophical Report in the studio following the event. Finally I selected clips from the guest, along with pre-recorded wild lines from the hosts, to produce the billboard.

Food Justice

This program was a live broadcast with our guest connected via ISDN from the UK. I produced the billboard, Roving Philosophical Report, Sixty-Second Philosopher, and music breaks. Following the broadcast (which we begin two minutes earlier than the re-broadcast), I cut the program to time by removing the live call to listeners and editing various other parts of the conversation.

John and Ken welcome Tim Benton, Professor of Population Ecology at the University of Leeds and UK Champion for Global Food Security.
